A wet-back boiler is one in which the smoke chamber of the boiler is moved to the inside of the boiler barrel of the corresponding boiler type. The tube plate, back plate and tube body of the flue chamber are surrounded by pot water (i.e. immersed in furnace water), hence the name “wet back”.
After the flue gas from this series of industrial boilers is transferred to the flue gas exchanger (first return pipe), the flue gas temperature is already low (generally around 450°C) when it reaches the front flue box. This makes the structure of the front flue box easy to fabricate, usually with steel construction and lined with insulation material. Boilers with “wet back” construction can accommodate high temperatures and are well sealed. It is also much smaller than the “dry-back” type flue box. Therefore, it can avoid the disadvantages of “dry-back” structure, prolong the normal operation cycle of the boiler and reduce the maintenance cost, so it is widely used.
